    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks for the heads up, Ashley! Fixed.

      1. Lol, I was about to ask for a backlink in exchange of catching that error. But I see that’s already fixed :-P.

  5. I was looking for a great in-depth article. This is it! Will read this in details & apply to my website soon Brian. Great work, as always…..thank you!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Gabriel. Glad you learned some new strategies.

Also, I visited Bucharest a few years ago. Great city!

      1. Yes, at Gpec conference. I was there too!

  7. Hi Brain,

Another masterpiece. Link building is important but… still people are not utilizing it. Or we can say don’t know how to build quality links.

Your post came at the right moment while I was trying something new to rank my one post. This is a huge list of link building strategies and it’s going to help me a lot.

    Thanks,
    Umesh Singh

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks Umesh. That’s true: most people know links are important… but they don’t know how to get started. With 178 techniques in this post there’s no excuse!

  8. Hey Brian, You Missed PBN’s :-P. I’ve never seen you talking about PBN’s, what’s your bet on that?

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Shehryar, even though I personally don’t recommend PBNs, they do deserve a mention here. Good call. I’ll do that the next time I update this post.

      1. Thank you, Brian, I have one word for you, You’re GREAT. I am actually trying every possible thing to copy you but looks like you have much more BRAIN than me :-D.

  9. This is inspiring!! you always amaze with your content but this time I loved the navigation.

    Thank you Brian and Team

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Gurvinder. I’m also a big fan of those buttons. It’s SUPER helpful for massive list posts like these.

  10. Hi Brian, thanks for the content!

Need to try some of these and come back to your with the results.

Also, there’s a typo on the page (Pro Tip: Don’t limit your scholarship opportunities to search strings like “site.edu:scholorhips”)

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Jamie, you’re welcome. Definitely keep me posted on how things go. And spot on the typo.

  11. syed tutul Avatar syed tutulsays:

    I have a question
Which is more effective? A well readable article or an infographic post.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

There’s no straight answer to that one. It depends on a million different things

  12. Hey Brian!

This is a great list 🙂 I can’t believe I have never thought about creating icons in order to gain links. About to get my designer on that one right away √

Thank you for always putting out such informative work.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Benji. Nice! Let me know how it goes.

  13. thanks again Brian great post.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      You’re welcome, Gary.

  14. I have never ever seen such a long as well as interesting link building list. Thanks Brian Dean.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      👍 👍 👍

  15. Wow what a huge post love that you always go 10x the content Backlinko! 🙂

Are you worried about longer load times when the post is so big?

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Daniel, it’s a balance for sure. These massive posts take forever to load. But the upside is more links, shares and referral traffic.

  16. Hannah Avatar Hannahsays:

I love the navigational interface you have added at the top. I will definitely be incorporating some of these strategies into my campaigns. 🙂

    Thanks so much!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

No problem, Hannah. I’m also a big fan. We originally created the button navigation for this post: http://www.window11.yinliudashi.workers.dev/seo-tools. People really liked it so I started to use it whenever I publish a big ol’ list post.

  17. Hey Brian, how are you man?

This: “Be Specific With Your Outreach” worked very well for me some time ago, now I can be sure I did it right!

I did it blatantly and it worked out lol

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Natanael, I’m good thanks. Nice! As long as you’re not pushy, being specific is better than being super vague.

  18. Hey Brian,

I was about to search for google about link building strategies, luckily a mail popped at right time.

A lengthy and great resource for building links.

    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      That’s good timing!

  19. Simon James Avatar Simon Jamessays:

    Excellent stuff, thanks Brian

BTW in the “Non-Brand Mention Monitoring” section you have the word ‘alters’ instead of ‘filters’.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      You’re welcome, Simon! Typo=fixed

  20. Really thanks for these techniques i know some of them but not all the strategies are so intresting that i have to go through it all by not even skipping a single line i think now guest posting is replaced by sponsored post in the end my favourite technique to build link is broken link building.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      👍👍👍👍

  21. Hi Brian,

I have only one word AMAZING! I never knew there are 174 link building strategies available. I’d be honest here I was struggling with new link building strategies for my new projects.

Now I can tell my team to apply these link building strategies.

    Thanks Brian. 🙂

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      You’re welcome. It’s actually 178. But who’s counting 🙂

  22. Wow! Another Great Post!
    Thanks, Brian

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Anik. Glad you enjoyed it.

  23. Hi Brian,
Great post as usual 🙂 I would recommend people to use Talkwalker Alerts to track branded and non-branded keywords. https://www.talkwalker.com/alerts
It works much better than Google Alerts!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks François. I’ve tried Mention.com and BuzzSumo Alerts, which are both good. I’ll have to give TalkWalker a shot soon.

  24. Riley Avatar Rileysays:

    Great post, Brian!

Regarding Wikipedia pages, since it’s against Wikipedia’s guidelines to write your own page (for obvious reasons), would you advise hiring a 3rd party service to write on your behalf? If so, does this strategy actually work?

    Thanks again.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks Riley. Yes, you definitely want to not write your own page. Whether the page sticks or not is ultimately up to the mods and whether or not the company/person meets Wikipedia’s guidelines for a page. To me it’s not worth the effort for a single, nofollow link. But others don’t agree.

  25. This is just a Gold mine of link building. I’ll try broken link building for my site. Thank you so much brian.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, John. Broken link building is SWEET

  26. Another great post Brian. I have definitely learnt some new tactics here. Thanks!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Feranmi. Let me know how the new tactics work out for you.

  27. jay Avatar jaysays:

It’s is really a huge list OMG! awesome work brian as always but I have question that how much time a micro niche website take to rank 1 in google and which is the best method for off page seo for that or there is no need of it (no need to build links)

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Jay, it depends a lot on the keyword. It’s really impossible to put a date on it.

  28. Nice one dude, but after building links into a new blog..how long do you think it will take to reflect

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks. It’s really hard to say because there are a lot of variables (your keyword, domain authority etc etc.). But if you build enough quality links you usually see a boost within weeks.

  29. Hello Brian,
Another superb article from you as expected. I followed your tips on-page seo like increase you page CTR, Optimizing Page loading Speed, short url, and decreasing the bounce rate. All those worked for me, my average ranking increased incredibly.
    Once against thank you.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

No worries, Amit. Glad you enjoyed this post too.

  30. Sabeeha Avatar Sabeehasays:

I only read and listen to SEO advice from Backlinko 🙂 keep it up Brian!!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      Nice!

  31. Hey Brian,
    Thanks for such informative content.
One question: Why would I choose to focus on nofollow links? Is it solely to attempt to get more traffic to my site, or is there a possibility it’ll turn into a follow? Also, does site traffic on a page truly impact SEO ratings?
One note, you write how you like written interviews more than podcasts. Notice how he spelled it backinko and not backlinko.
Either way, I love your content. So good and helpful!
    Thanks much!
    Shalom

  32. Damn bro…
But is not “Link Building Strategy” and “Link Building” kind of cannibalizing each other??

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

I’m hoping for the double result 🙂

  33. A huge and very useful list of link building strategies very necessary for bloggers with small budgets.
In my case, I can say that copying other’s links worked the best in a pretty crowded nice.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks Darius. I agree: reverse engineering your competitors is a good place to start.

  34. Hey Brian

Cool post once again. I think the filters are awesome even though I think only some of them are worth the time. Depending on your niche and business some of the link types might be “unachievable”.

However I think it’s important to note that you will need to have something cool to link back to (just like backlinko). Why should anyone want to link back to your website if you doesn’t have any awesome content or cool product, right?

My point is: I think content marketing is be the ultimate linkbuilding engine/strategy! 🙂

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Daniel, that’s 1000% true. If you don’t have an awesome site there’s no reason for anyone to link to you. That’s the key that unlocks all of these strategies.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Christian. I hope you learned about a few new link building strategies that you can try out.

  35. Brian thanks so much for all this valuable information. But I have to tell you, since I found your blog, my mind is about to explode… so difficult!!!!
I’m doing well mentoring in the “offline world” but I just wanted to help people here in the “online” one. I decided to create a project and make the startup by myself as an example for others. Man.. this is so hard. You design and you create content… but the main thing is that you have to build this “links relation”… and, at least to me, that’s huge!!

Thanks again! I’d love to have the possibility of having you in my podcast… if I get to started someday!! heheheh
    Luis

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Luis. For real: SEO can be confusing for sure. I recommend starting and focusing on keyword research and going from there. That’s the foundation.

      1. Thanks a lot. I’m starting from there. You are an incredible source of knowledge, thanks so much.

  36. Once again, you have killed it Brian! Can’t believe I made it into your post 🤓

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      😀

  37. Now that’s a comprehensive list.
Thanks for putting all of this under one roof, Brian!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Milos. I hope this page will be the go-to spot for link building tactics from now on.

  38. Most awaited blog from you.. it is outstanding.. Till now on-page article of yours was my best . Now off page too. Brian can you please write an article on free tools which we can use in Digital marketing

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      Thanks 👍👍👍

  39. Jason Avatar Jasonsays:

Extreme value as always. The way you put across the info and help those who are looking for clear information on otherwise complex topics is invaluable. Much gratitude.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      Happy to help, Jason.

  40. Thanks for sharing the holy-grail of link building. There are many techniques revealed here which are really impressive. 2018 is the best year for me as I got so many SEO clients this year after implementing all the strategies I learned in STW.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      You’re welcome, Roi!

  41. Really great advice for SEOs trying to up their link-building game. I’m going to send this to my current SEO guy now!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      Awesome, Rob!

  42. This really is one of the most comprehensive list of link-building techniques on the Internet.

I can only imagine how much of effort you put into making each of your articles an absolute go-to guide. I’d like to ask for your opinion on how early can one start building backlinks for their new blog?

Again I just want to thank you for always taking the extra step to make your readers happy.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Thanks. You can start link building right away.

  43. Great list, lots of actionable items with varying difficulties.

    Will definitely apply these!

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      Thanks Alex!

  44. Some awesome tips here Brian, thanks! Time to get to work I guess 🙂

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

You’re welcome, Michiel. Yup, it’s time!

  45. Michael Avatar Michaelsays:

    Hi Brian,

Thanks again for taking the time to put these awesome guides together for the community. Greatly appreciated.

    However, quick question..

Would you not expect this post to compete against your /link-building guide that you’ve produced? Therefore effecting it’s ranking, while Google decides which to prioritise for the target keyword; which I presume in this case are both ‘link building’.

I think it’s more commonly referred to as cannibalisation

Keen to hear your thoughts on this one. Maybe not something you have to worry about, but it’s something I’ve experienced with a new client of mine.

P.S. Voucher Codes have worked great for my clients, recently. Contributing legit sales as well as link juice!

    Have a great day,
    Michael

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      You’re welcome, Michael.

      GREAT question.

      Two thoughts:

      1. My target keyword for this post is: “Link building strategies”. The SERPS are really different than for “link building”, so it’s not super likely I’ll be competing against my link building guide.

      2. If this post does start to rank for “link building”, I’m hoping for a double result.

So yeah, keyword cannibalization is a legit concern. But I’m thinking I’ll be OK in this case.

PS: heck yeah! I’ve seen that too.

      1. Michael Avatar Michaelsays:

        Thanks man!

Ah ha. Makes total sense, I can see that now.

Also, doubling up and taking two search results really would be winning! Probably isn’t far from possible either, with your domain strength; i’ll keep an eye out for it!

Cool 🙂 – thanks again Bri.

  46. Sunny Agarwal Avatar Sunny Agarwalsays:

    Hello Brian,

Just a question to you: If we promote same content to others except in form of a link from some site then isn’t it is a case of duplication for Google because we posting same content everywhere through “Content Roadshow”. I mean there is no way you can put canonical url on your publisher’s website which highlights your content master copy url. also, every publisher want unique content on their site

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Sunny, that’s actually no biggie. They’re not usually reposting your content so it’s all good.

      1. Sunny Agarwal Avatar Sunny Agarwalsays:

Thanks for your help. One more Question to you: have you ever noticed that few of rich snippet shows up when we search like site:url but when the same page which have snippet available mostly star rating, price snippet and all don’t appear when search on keywords.

  47. Hey Brian,

in your experience, what is the most effective method of link building? The easiest method?

I try to do wikipeida submission, but damn it is hard. Is a very knit community.

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Hey Steve, It’s hard to say because it partly depends on your niche, skills, etc. I recommend hitting the “beginners” button a the top of this post and starting from there.

  48. Hi Brian, I like the use of filters at the beginning of the article (beginner, advanced, etc). But how do you think Google deals with that from an SEO prespective, if some content is hidden?

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

Good question, Rick. Be default 100% of the content shows. That way, there’s no hidden content that Google might have trouble indexing.

      1. Hi Brian,

What an Article it is… Awesome. If you place any content or links in the collapsible menu , does google index that or ignores that Js . We have noticed more 302 in our website. Does it effect on Rankings. Please help me regarding these. Thanks

        1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

We don’t have any links or content that are hidden. by default… only is a user wants to filter down. That’s the key to getting everything indexed.

  49. Pretty awesome package you delifered once more.
I really love your way of burning every post. So amazingly thorough and extensiv.

    Keep it up 💯🚀

    1. Brian Dean Avatar Brian Deansays:

      Thanks Tariq. I appreciate that
